Robert Drummond

An accomplished executive with extensive oilfield business experience in operations, sales management and strategic planning, Robert Drummond has leveraged his engineering background to lead two oil and energy companies.

Drummond came to The University of Alabama in 1980, graduating three years later with a bachelor’s degree in mineral engineering, petroleum option. He went to Louisiana to join Schlumberger North America as a Wireline field engineer and held several positions including district manager of offshore drilling out of New Orleans and field service manager at the company’s operations in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.

In 1998, he was appointed sales manager for Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Houston where he oversaw the technical sales process for four oilfield segments operating in the Gulf of Mexico and the inland United States, a position he held until 2000 when he moved to Schlumberger Canada as vice president and general manager of the Atlantic and Eastern Canada.

In 2004, he was promoted vice president and general manager of U.S. Land, his first of four executive leadership appointments by the end of 2010 that included vice president of Global Sales, vice president and general manager of U.S. Gulf of Mexico along with president of North America Offshore and Alaska. Through the four positions, Drummond oversaw all oilfield services inland or offshore in the U.S. and Canada as well as led the professional sales group in North America.

In January 2011, he was selected as president of Schlumberger North America, which had 23,000 employees across 16 business units with revenues more than $16 billion annually. As president, he oversaw the integration of recent acquisitions and created a more efficient and effective support structure within the company.

After 31 years, he retired from Schlumberger in June 2015 to become president and chief operating officer for Key Energy Services in Houston, which provides well intervention services with operations in the U.S., Latin America, the Middle East and Russia. In March of this year, he was named CEO.

He has had numerous professional affiliations, and currently serves as a member of the UA College of Engineering Leadership Board, the executive committee of the National Ocean Industries Association and the advisory board of Petroleum Equipment and Services Association. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Drummond and his wife, Donna, a 1984 UA graduate in chemical engineering, live in Richmond, Texas. They have two children in college.
