Donald B. Flournoy Jr.
A native of Prattville, Alabama, Donald “Chip” Flournoy has acquired skills and experience throughout his 40-year career in engineering and maintenance processes, safety compliance and performance, industries, and business processes.
Flournoy earned his mechanical engineering degree from The University of Alabama in 1978. He began his engineering career at Reynolds Metals Company. During his time at Reynolds, he worked as a maintenance engineer, a process engineer, and a maintenance supervisor in the smelter plant.
Other positions he held at Reynolds were research engineer for smelter technology, production supervisor at the hot rolling mill, process engineer in hot rolling modernization/automation, and process systems manager at the alloys plant. He developed and copyrighted heat transfer software in 1983, and in 1993, he worked for six weeks as a technology exchange engineer in Nagoya, Japan.
In 1999, he started working at Wise Metals Group, new owners of the Reynolds facilities. He advanced in responsibilities that included director of information technology and process systems; director of engineering, maintenance and environmental; president and COO of Total Maintenance Center LLC; and president and COO of Alabama Electric Motor Services LLC.
After 34 years at the Reynolds and then Wise facility, Flournoy started his own company, Flournoy Engineering and Consulting, in 2012. The business offers engineering design, project management and consulting services to industrial and commercial clients as well as general contractors.
In addition to serving his company, he has also worked as an adjunct professor of engineering technology at the University of West Alabama and Shelton State Community College. He is a licensed professional engineer and a United States Coast Guard licensed captain.
Flournoy lives with his wife, Pamela, a 1977 UA communications graduate, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The couple have owned Flournoy Yacht Charters since 2004.
In his spare time, Flournoy has been active in his community and church through organizations such as the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, the Shoals Manufacturer’s Association, the Muscle Shoals PeeWee Football Association and the Presbyterian Church PCUSA. He is also a board member of the Capstone Engineering Society.
The Flournoy’s children are UA College of Engineering graduates. Adam Donald Flournoy has a degree in electrical engineering, and Shannon Flournoy Beale holds a degree in civil engineering. The couple has five grandchildren.
