Dr. Rachel McDaniel is a Research Associate Professor at The University of Alabama with a joint appointment between the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) and the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. McDaniel’s research focuses on hydrologic modeling, water resources, environmental and agricultural systems, and computational tools that support water prediction and decision-making. Her work bridges applied hydrology, data integration, and model development and analysis to improve understanding of watershed processes and water management. Recent research has supported the advancement of large-scale hydrologic prediction and forecasting capabilities through interoperable modeling systems. She also has experience studying hydrologic extremes, including droughts and floods, as well as water quality and watershed-scale environmental processes.
