Woodrow (Woody) N. Wilson is a teaching assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. His research interests focus on utilizing molecular simulations to understand phenomena at an atomic scale for heterogeneous catalysis. After training machine learning models to predict atomic interactions derived from quantum mechanics, Wilson utilizes a combination of molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations to probe the interface between catalyst surfaces, solvents, and reactants. Wilson is also actively involved in engineering education with particular interest in chemical engineering application in the unit operations laboratory, elucidating abstract thermodynamic concepts with molecular simulations, and chemical process optimization in senior design. Wilson’s work has been presented in internationally recognized venues including The Journal of Chemical Physics, Catalysis Science & Technology, North American Catalysis Society Meetings, and American Chemical Society Conferences.
