Dr. Xinyue Ye is the Endowed Shelby Distinguished Professor of GeoAI (Geospatial Artificial Intelligence) at The University of Alabama. He is the Founding Director of the Alabama Geospatial AI & Information Science (ALA-GAINS) Hub, Founding Director of the Future of AI Lecture Series, and Associate Director of the Alabama Center for the Advancement of AI. He also serves as AI for Social Impact Core Lead for the Institute for Social Science Research, Chief AI and Digital Twin R&D Officer for the Alabama Transportation Institute, and Director of AI for CONSERVE at the Alabama Water Institute. Dr. Ye’s interdisciplinary research advances GeoAI, spatial intelligence, and digital twins by integrating artificial intelligence, geospatial computing, human mobility, and real-time modeling and simulation. His work addresses challenges spanning infrastructure resilience, extreme weather preparedness, transportation, precision public health, urban environmental science, and sustainable communities, with particular attention to interactions among AI, human behavior, the built environment, and public policy. His research has received support from 13 federal agencies, as well as many industry partners and private foundations. Before joining Alabama, Dr. Ye was the Harold L. Adams Endowed Professor at Texas A&M University, where he directed the Center for Geospatial Sciences, Applications and Technology (GeoSAT) and served as the first Faculty Fellow for Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships in the Division of Research. Throughout his career, he has advanced interdisciplinary research connecting geography, computer science, urban planning, public health, and policy, with an emphasis on translating AI and spatial technologies into solutions for complex societal challenges.
