The Minor in Computing, Data, and AI Literacy provides students from any major with essential knowledge and practical skills in modern computational thinking, data-driven problem solving, and artificial intelligence tools. The minor introduces foundational concepts in data management, statistical reasoning, digital technologies, and machine learning while emphasizing ethical and responsible use of emerging technologies.
Students completing the minor will be able to:
- Recognize how AI and data systems are used in common applications, workplaces, and daily life.
- Organize and interpret basic data sets using tools such as Excel or simple visualization software.
- Describe how computers and AI make decisions and how people can use those tools ethically and responsibly.
- Effectively use AI tools to enhance productivity, support problem-solving, and assist with everyday digital tasks.
- Communicate data-based insights clearly to others who may not have technical
REQUIREMENTS
- CS 106: AI Literacy:3 hours.
- Select one of the following:
- CS 102 Computer Applications
- CS 104 Computer Science Principles
- CS 112 Digital Literacy
- Six (6) hours of CS courses that complete one of the four sequences listed below:
- CS 202 and CS 312 (Web)
- CS 223 and CS 323 (Python Programming)
- CS 285 and CS 385 (Spreadsheets)
- Nine (9) hours of additional courses offered by the Computer Science Department.Most students select their six hours above or of the following:
- CS 206 – Data Science Literacy
- CS 305 – Advanced Computer Database Systems
- CS 312 – Website Design
- CS 340 – Legal and Ethical Issues in Computing
- CS 385 – Advanced Spreadsheet Applications
COMMENTS
For students in the College of Arts & Sciences, at least two of your CS courses must be 300-level or higher.
