The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program at the University of Alabama is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and Program Criteria for Cybersecurity and similarly named Computing Programs.

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Alabama is offering a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security. This program is designed to provide a rigorous, technical degree that imparts the necessary knowledge, skills, and motivations to protect and defend digital information from attacks. The B.S. degree in Cyber Security provides students with the technical skills and theoretical concepts needed to protect Internet-connected hardware, software and data of computer systems. The B.S. in Cyber Security is comprised of traditional core Computer Science courses, technical Cyber courses, and law/policy/ethics courses. The undergraduate Cyber Security degree program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission(s) of ABET, https://www.abet.org under the General Criteria and the Cybersecurity Program Criteria.

Program Objectives, Student Outcomes and Statistics

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

For our B.S. degree program in Cyber Security, the following set of educational objectives describes what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation.

  1. Successfully engage in the professional practice in the computing sciences or cyber security as well as apply computer science or cyber security tools to another field of interest;
  2. Pursue advanced study in the computing sciences or cyber security;
  3. Regularly demonstrate their ability to contribute to society in a professional and ethical manner, communicate effectively, and work successfully in both independent and team environments.

STUDENT OUTCOMES

The Cyber Security undergraduate program, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree, are designed to enable students to

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  6. Apply security principles and practices to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats.
