Dr. Woodbury is the Founding Director of the Alabama Industrial Assessment Center (AIAC). AIAC is one of 32 assessment centers funded by the Department of Energy to educate engineering student employees in energy efficiency through on-site assessments of industrial manufacturing facilities. Dr. Woodbury has led student teams on over 250 energy assessments, identifying efficiency opportunities throughout the manufacturing facility. AIAC was named the 2011 “Center of Excellence” by the Department of Energy.
Dr. Woodbury’s academic research in inverse problems in heat transfer has included applications to metal casting and investigation of measurement error effects on inversion. Recent research under his direction has focused on development of algorithms for near real-time solution of the inverse heat conduction problem. He is the editor of the Inverse Engineering Handbook (CRC, 2002), and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ K-20 Committee on Computational Heat Transfer.
