Dr. Allen S. Parrish is the executive director of the Alabama Cyber Institute, the senior workforce development adviser for the Alabama Transportation Institute, and a professor of computer science at The University of Alabama. He has served in these capacities since April 2024. Previously, he served UA as the interim vice president for research and economic development from 2023 to 2024 and as executive director for the Alabama Transportation Institute since 2020.

Parrish came to UA in 2020 from Mississippi State University, where he served as associate vice president for research and a professor of computer science and engineering. From 2016-2018, Parrish served as professor and chair of the Department of Cyber Science at the United States Naval Academy. Prior to his work at the Naval Academy, Parrish served for 26 years on the faculty at UA in a variety of roles, including professor of computer science, associate vice president for research, and founding director of the Center for Advanced Public Safety.

Throughout his career, Parrish has worked on more than 200 funded projects totaling over $100 million from a variety of state and federal sponsors. Parrish has published in refereed journals and participated in conferences in areas as diverse as data science, software engineering, transportation safety and technology education.
