Dr. Qianzhi Zhang joined The University of Alabama’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a tenure-track assistant professor in August 2023. From 2022 to 2023, he was an Ezra Systems postdoctoral associate with Cornell University. He was a recipient of the Outstanding Reviewer Award from IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.

His research focuses on a range of areas, including power/energy management, voltage/var control, system resilience enhancement, transportation electrification at scale, and the applications of advanced optimization and machine learning techniques in power system operation and control. His main areas of interest are:

  • Modeling, simulation, and control of power systems and microgrids with renewable energy generations and inverter-based resources
  • Resilience enhancement of inverter-dominated power systems
  • Power system planning and operation with end-use electrification at scale, including building and transportation electrifications.
