This will be a hands-on session designed to bring participants from foundational concepts in generative AI to building and running their first AI agents. If you plan to participate in the hands-on portion, please bring a laptop and charger.

- Welcome remarks from Dr. Clifford Henderson, Dean of the Lee J. Styslinger Jr. College of Engineering at The University of Alabama
- Introductions to the facilitating Google Customer Engineers who will be assisting you throughout the afternoon
1:20-2:20 p.m. | Presentation & Live Demonstration
- Focus: Gain a comprehensive understanding of what Gemini can do out of the box and how to extend it with customized agents
- Key Highlights:
- Gemini Enterprise: A short introduction to Google’s AI assistant
- No-Code Agent Builder: See how quickly you can visually construct a functional AI agent. We will showcase the power of ground-truth scaffolding and “bootloading” descriptions to ensure your agent behaves predictably, safely, and repeatedly.
- Code-First Agent Development Kit (ADK): Take a look under the hood. We will showcase one or two advanced ADK-built agents to demonstrate how developers can orchestrate complex, programmatic tasks.
- Key Technological Differentiators:
- Tool Execution & Calculators: Learn how Gemini agents seamlessly call external tools — such as secure Python code execution environments — to query tabular data or live web assets to perform error-free calculations.
- Multimodality in Action: Watch Gemini extract intricate specifications and structural insights directly from technical architecture diagrams.
- Dynamic Artifact Generation: See how a natural conversation can instantly generate a structured deliverable, like a publication-quality PDF or reports

- Facilitator Support: Roaming table volunteers will assist with prompt engineering, tool configurations, and troubleshooting so you can build with confidence
3:30-4 p.m. | Show & Tell, AI-Assisted Evaluation & Awards
- Objective: Share what you’ve built with others and win a prize
