Dr. Sean Amini joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Alabama in August 2020 as Associate Professor. Dr. Amini´s current research is focused on development of a new generation of Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems, CO2 capture processes from industrial point sources, CO2 utilization for producing chemicals and e-fuels and novel clean hydrogen production processes from natural gas with integrated CO2 capture. He is currently the Director of Alabama Renewable Energy Program (AREP) and Assistant Director of Alabama Industrial Assessment Center (AIAC).
Prior to his work at UA, he was a Research Director and Senior Scientist at SINTEF, Norway (Scandinavia’s largest research organization) and a Adjunct Associate Professor at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). During his work at SINTEF and NTNU, he worked with a wide range of industries in interdisciplinary R&D projects. Prior working at SINTEF, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at University of Manchester, UK.
Dr. Amini has created and managed a portfolio of over $22M external research funding and led large international projects with industrial partners. He has over 120 publications in leading journals on sustainability and clean energy technologies.
