Funding Opportunities

The University of Alabama makes financial awards to graduate students mainly through fellowships and assistantships. Graduate applicants for financial aid must have been admitted to the University, to UA’s Graduate School and to a degree program. Only academically superior students are eligible for fellowships and assistantships.

DEPARTMENTAL GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

Most engineering departments employ graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), graduate research assistants (GRAs), and/or graduate administrative assistants (GAAs). Regular assistantships have a minimum stipend per academic year, and six semester hours per semester of teaching or equivalent work are required of the assistant. Graduate assistants receive tuition grants equal to their in-state and out-of-state tuition. Tuition grants are reduced proportionately for part-time assistantships.
