Dr. A B M Tahidul Haque is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The vision of his AIMS Group is to design adaptive and multifunctional devices by seamless interaction of physically intelligent mediums with electronics and robotics platforms. He studies the mechanics and manufacturing methods of micro/nanocomposites for flexible sensors and actuators, and programmable metamaterial for logic processing, compliant mechanisms, and shape morphing. The functional materials and structures developed in his group enable multifunctional devices that can embody different shapes and behaviors to function in changed configurations and environments, advancing the design and manufacturing domain for biomedical, robotics, infrastructures, and energy technologies. The group navigates engineering intelligence in three interrelated areas:
- Processing of functional composites
- Mechanics of architectural intelligence
- Manufacturing and control of integrated devices
Dr. Haque completed his Ph.D. at the University at Buffalo for research on wave propagation in phononic crystals. His experience also includes postdoctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania and Virginia Tech, where he contributed to the emerging areas of functional micro/nanocomposites, graded and re-programmable metamaterials, and advanced manufacturing methods. This was followed by his position as research fellow at University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he worked on bio-inspired adhesives for robotics in extreme space environments.
