Dr. Rajan Kattil’s research focuses on developing physics-informed machine learning approaches for material modeling and property identification. His work combines experimental methods such as digital image correlation (DIC) with inverse techniques and finite element analysis to extract constitutive behavior in heterogeneous and emerging materials. He is particularly interested in the rapid characterization of additively manufactured materials and in modeling processes such as automated fiber placement in aerospace composites. These efforts aim to improve understanding of how materials respond under complex loading conditions, including high strain rate environments. His research has been supported through collaborations with Boeing, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, and NASA.
